Grayton Beach State Park

Another bodacious day here, 86 degrees, sunshine, clear

blue skies.  This is one primo beach!!  White sugar sand, soft

on the beach, but solid by the waters’ edge, great for strollin.

No shells, but lots of coquinas, wiggling into the sand.

And the water, clear with an emerald green color—stunning.

Hence, The Emerald Coast!

Grayton Beach State Park

We were lucky—got 2 nights here!

One of the premier state parks on the Emerald Coast,

consistently ranked among the most beautiful and pristine

beaches in the United States.

Torreya State Park

Located southwest of Tallahassee overlooking the Apalachicola River.

The park was named after a rare species of the endangered Torreya (taxiflora) tree — which can only be found along the high bluffs along the Apalachicola River.

In the 1930’s, The CCC workers developed this park along with the Gregory House. The Gregory House was built in 1849 by a planter, James Gregory and was located across the river. The plantation prospered until the beginnings of Civil War and the abolition of slavery. The Gregory’s left after the war, and the house fell into disrepair. A lumber company took ownership of the house and donated it to the new Torreya State Park.  In 1935, the CCC workers disassembled the house and moved it to its present location.

One of the most picturesque settings in Florida.

After a healthy breakfast with the grandkids, we headed North.

(Opps, darn it, we left our brand new door mat at the campground 😩)

PAYNES PRAIRIE STATE PARK         Micanopy, FL

Situated just south of Gainesville, this is truly an unique preserve.  The only place in Florida where

there are herds of bison and wild horses. Sorry, didn’t see any.

Our last day at Grayton Beach and the water was absolutely beautiful!

Krul Lake Campground is our next stop for today and tomorrow. Who

About twenty miles north of Milton, FL. Where ever that is!

Nice campground—level site, under tall pine trees with water and
